Background: Working closely with the San Mateo County staff, the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) developed 'The Heart of the Mountain'—a restoration project that offers opportunities for local community and corporate groups, teachers, and school children to become involved in the many dimensions of landcare: planning, weed removal, seed collection, nursery propagation, and outplanting. CNPS needed a redesign of their existing barebones 'Heart of the Mountain' web site to help promote the volunteer community to join.

Solution: Working with the concept of community, the information architecture of the web site was reworked to focus on a new photo gallery and latest news sections. The color palette of subtle greens and yellows reflects the welcoming attitude and lightheartedness of the group while supporting the idea of helping the environment.
